Top Ten New York Street Style Trends

FASHION month always brings new and exciting style ideas (both on and off the catwalk). Kicking off with New York Fashion Week - Here's seeVogue's edit of the top ten trends happening now on the street.

Yes, the Seventies strikes again when it comes to handbags - the wholesome saddle bag is the accessory of choice. The version pictured is Chloe’s retake on the classic style. Wear yours with a fuzzy fur and flyaway, feminine dress for all-out retro romance.
The long suede boot made a serious impression on Altuzarra’s Autumn/Winter 2015 catwalk, plus there’s already a loyal following of editors currently rocking the sexed-up boot with split pencil skirts and casual sweaters on the street. Why it's a winning piece? Well, aside from the added warmth, you’re set from breakfast to after-party without the need for any sly outfit changes.

A winter season dominated by homely Seventies shearling coats certainly came into it’s own as temperatures plummeted to minus 16 in Manhattan last week. Why the sheepskin wins as a cover up? It works just as well with classic ice-blue denim as it does slung over the shoulders of a swishy cocktail dress.

The disco staple is currently making a major imprint on the daytime wardrobes of international fashion editors. The easiest way to pull off the look? Opt for head-to-toe black (corduroy or velvet offer a luxurious edge over denim) - a streamline polo-neck will further exaggerate the endlessly leggy look.

Rather than the grungy beanie, it’s the tongue-in-cheek boy cap which is marking out the fashion industry’s chicest peacocks. Tommy Hilfiger’s version (pictured here) wins. No band credentials needed, but this definitely isn’t an accessory trend for wallflowers.

Patch-worked jeans aren't going anywhere any time soon. We’ve spotted variations on the boyfriend, flare and super skinny front row at the New York shows, but this season, all eyes are on the jeans with added texture and embellishment.

If you were spotted rocking a discerningly minimal look over the past seasons, chances are you’re now exploring macho military options when it comes to outerwear. Celine’s pre-fall look book has further stoked our appetite for polished fatigues - the piece to wear now is the ankle-grazing khaki overcoat.

Forgo a prim stole in favour of a ghetto fabulous fur trim that flashes classic hip hop credentials. After all, where better than the birthplace of Notorious B.I.G., Lil' Kim and Mary J. Blige to demo your swagger?

With the glamorous peasant dress tipped to be the star piece of summer 2015 - the fashion set are already getting their boho fix with full-skirted blanket dresses. Wear yours with sturdy brown leather boots for nonchalantly feminine appeal.

From faded camel coats to dusky biscotti sweater dresses - the fashion crowd, usually so faithful to midnight black, is starting to lighten up.
